Library Service Consultation

“Reading is a lifelong passion for so many people, as it constantly opens up new worlds of discovery whatever your age. I believe having the library and leisure services side by side in the Dolphin Centre will be a great opportunity to encourage more people in Darlington to realise the magic of books.

Councillor Nick Wallis

Thank you for visiting this site about the consultations that were held about the future of the Library Service in Darlington.

On this site, you can read detailed proposals of how the Central Library could look and work within the Dolphin Centre. The proposal pages within this website aim to show a clear comparison between how the Central Library currently operates in Crown Street and how it could operate at the Dolphin Centre.

If you took part in the consultations that were carried out in 2016, thank you for sharing your views, which are extremely important to us.

The Council's Cabinet met on 17 January 2017 and agreed a series of recommendations about the future of the service. Please see the Background page for more information. These recommendations will now be subject to a final decision by Full Council on 26 January 2017.

Please note the future of the Crown Street Library building will be decided by a meeting of the Cabinet, in its capacity of trustee. For more information see the Council’s website.
